The future of education is cohort-based learning; through experienced leaders, students learn about the world. Each of our language teachers has a talent that goes beyond just teaching English. Touching the surface is not enough; new generations are hungry for more. Don’t be fooled by their constantly online status; they want to feel alive just like anybody else. A second renaissance is well on its way, and we are at the forefront.
Six months ago, while discussing how to challenge high school students in a Language Department meeting, Life Skills was born. Excitement sizzled in the air; now our mission was to figure out what courses to teach. A taste of university life we aimed for, and that took us back to why we taught, what passions invigorated us in our youth. We had to go back to the core, strolling down memory lane; we thought about subjects that we fell in love with, teachers that impacted us, and most importantly, when we felt empowered.
Seven courses, eight teachers, and over 100 students will sail together into the unknown, knowing that true learning can only take place through authentic connection. Exciting things are coming, and as a true Renaissance man once said, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do. -Leonardo Da Vinci
